COMMUNITY

First Friday Downtown businesses sponsor First Friday on the 1st Friday evening of each month. Local and area musicians will perform free entertainment at shops, restaurants and galleries. Enjoy downtown Enid the first Friday of each month.

Enid Convention and Visitor Bureau provides information on where to stay, play and shop in Enid. Including a community calendar and information on hosting your next event in Enid.

Smokin' Red Dirt BBQ Festival in Historic Downtown Enid featuring Enid Maine Street's Live Jazz Stroll and the Habitat for Humanity BBQ Lunch. This is a KCBS Sanctioned BBQ Contest.

Tri-State Music Fesitval includes both competitive and non-competitive bands. The elementary honor band are also a part of the contest.

 


MUSEUMS

The Midgley Museum in Enid is located in a house constructed with over 30 kinds of rock by Dan and Libbie Midgley. The pair excavated the rocks for the home. Exhibits include antique dishes, furniture and a petrified wood fireplace. Of particular interest is a 7000 pound petrified tree stump on the front lawn. The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Centeropened in the spring of 2009 and features all new exhibits in a new 6,000 square foot exhibit space. Other features of the Heritage Center include a Special Exhibits Gallery for traveling and temporary exhibits, a reading and research room, gift shop, plaza, the Phillips University columns, and “The Homesteaders” monument by H. Holden.

The Railroad Museum of Oklahoma draws more tourists than any other Enid museum. With well over one million pieces of railroad memoribilia, the museum offers something for everyone regardless of age or background. Whether it's the world-class collection of dining car china and silverware, the vast library of reference books, photos and videos or the operating HO, N-scale and Lionel model railroads, what's contained within the buildings themselves is only part of your museum-going experience. Leonardo's Discovery Warehouse is a hands-on arts and sciences museum located in downtown Enid, Oklahoma. It's fun for children of all ages! Build in the Carpentry Shop, create your own masterpiece in the Art Studio, observe our snakes, chinchillas and ferrets in the Animal Area and so much more inside the converted warehouse. Learn while you play at Adventure Quest, the outdoor science park that's also one of the largest playgrounds of its kind in the world! Spend the day or come play for a few hours—you'll love Leonardo's.

Southern Heights Cultural Center & Museum serves as a repository as well as an exhibition and educational center that is dedicated to collecting, maintaining, preserving, and displaying "African ancestral history memorabilia." Exhibits include the history, heritage, and memorabilia of the ethnic Native Americans, African American-Black Indians, and Indian Freedman of the Five Civilized Tribes. They feature special exhibits on international opera sensation Leona Mitchell, African sculpture, 3D mixed media art, and a history of the journey from Africa to the Americas. PERFORMANCE ARTS

The Gaslight Theater is located at 221 N Independence Street in Downtown Enid, Oklahoma. The theater presents stage productions regularly. For more information, call (580) 234-8171.

The Enid Symphony Orchestra is located at 301 W Broadway Ave in Enid, Oklahoma. Performances are given in the newly restored Enid Symphony Center. For more information, call (580) 234-5597.

Skeleton Creek Productions is an old west museum and movie studio located at 228 E Randolph in Enid, Oklahoma. They have indoor movie sets including a 1200 square foot 1800's Saloon equipped with a dancing stage, an 1800's Hotel Room, and an Old West Jail. They began their first "movie set' in 2003, and since then, they have continued to create sets. For more information, call (580) 234-4998.

The Jane Champlin Art Gallery and Educational Classroom is located on the 5th floor of the Enid Symphony Center at 301 W. Broadway in Enid, Oklahoma. For more information, call (580) 237-9646.

 


RECREATION

Kiwanitrain and fun rides at Meadowlake Park Open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Train rides and carousel are $1.00 and other rides are 50¢. Open weekdays 6:30 to 9:30pm, weekends 3:30 to 9:00pm and extended hours on holidays. For more information or to rent rides for parties, call Wendall Welker at (580) 234- 8832.

The Enid Motor Speedway is located at the Garfield County Fairgrounds and conducts car races every Saturday night at 7:00pm from March through October. For more information, call (580) 233-9755.

The David Allen Memorial Ballpark is used for high school, college and American Legion baseball; state, regional and national baseball tournaments, outdoor concerts and other special events. Located at 301 S. Grand. For more information, call Bill Mayberry at (580) 548-0396.

Splash Zone Water Park is located at 1122 Trails West, south of Steven’s Ford. Open noon to 8:00pm daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Snack bar, volleyball and basketball courts available. Call (580) 242-5152 to schedule a company or birthday party or visit the web site at www.splashz.com.

The Enid Community Center is located at 202 W. Walnut and offers a great number of activities for seniors, including exercise, crafts, Bridge, painting, Dominoes, Pitch, pool, and bingo. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm. For more information, call (580) 234-2806.

 


PERSONAL FITNESS

The Denny Price Family YMCA of Enid features Northwest Oklahoma’s most complete fitness facility. This 63,000 square foot facility includes two full sized gymnasiums, two complete Cybex and cardiovascular centers, indoor running track, free weight room, two racquetball courts, a family adventure center, climbing wall, spacious locker rooms and an indoor swimming pool complex with a lap/exercise pool and family recreation pool. The Denny Price Family YMCA also provides programs for the whole family such as youth and adult sports leagues, group exercise classes, nursery, swim lessons, water exercise, after school care, summer day camp and much more. GOLF

Meadowlake Municipal Golf Course is an 18-hole course just east of the intersection of Rupe and Cleveland. Green fees are $18.75 on weekdays and $22.75 on weekends. For tee times or more information, call (580) 234-3080.

Oakwood Country Club is a private, 18-hole course that has hosted regional amateur and PGA events. Located at 1601 N. Oakwood. For more information, call (580) 242-5408.

Turkey Creek Golf Club is a par 70, 18-hole course located 5 miles west of Hennessey on Highway 51. Green fees are $10 Monday through Friday before 10am, $15 after 10am and $20 on weekends. The fee includes a cart. For more information, call (405) 853-2100.


Pheasant Run Golf Club
is an 18-hole, par 72, championship, link-style course with water in play on twelve holes and four sets of tees for players of every ability level. Green fees are $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends and holidays. A bag of balls at the driving range is $1.50. Cart rental is $10 per person and Mulligan’s Bar & Grill offers full food and beverage service. Located at 1702 Clubhouse Drive just west of Garland Road. For more information, call (580) 233-2355.
