Constitution Team competes in D.C.

Twelve members of the Enid High School Constitution Team competed over the weekend in the national constitution competition in Washington, D.C.

After two days of competition, the team found out it did not make the top 10 in the competition, but members still hope to grab a regional or unit award.

“They have done an excellent job. I’ve been absolutely proud of what they have done. They are walking away with a great experience,” said Matt Holtzen, Enid High School Constitution class teacher.

Although the team did not win, two members were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

“We had an appointment to watch them lay the wreath,” Holtzen said. “We got to watch them bring the wreath out and present it to the guards on duty. They (Shane Pendleton and Danae Frisbie, both seniors at EHS) got to lay the wreath on the tomb. We were so lucky to get to do that, not everyone gets to do that.

“A school that was supposed to do it canceled last minute, and we were in the right place at the right time. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is something that will stick with them forever.”

While the students were not competing, they went sightseeing and viewed national monuments.
