Enid Regional Development Alliance is holding a workshop on Tuesday for companies that would like the opportunity to develop patents from federal laboratories.
ERDA is part of an affiliate partner network called TechComm that connects cities and industries across the region to federal agencies and laboratories that are producing new technologies.
At the Tuesday workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about TechComm and the relationship Enid has with the Center for Innovation in Arlington, Texas.
“We are encouraging business owners and people in research development companies and entrepreneurs to come to this workshop,” said Brent Kisling, Enid Regional Development Alliance executive director. “We will discuss how companies in northwest Oklahoma can access this new TechComm network.”
Kisling said a few local businesses already have gotten started working within the TechComm network.
Back in April, Arlington (Texas) Chamber of Commerce CEO Wes Jurey came to Enid to explain what it was like working within TechComm.
Jurey said there are 363 federal labs involved with TechComm. The labs together spend $100 billion annually on research. More than 15,000 patented technologies have been created as a result of the $100 billion spent annually.
“(Our relationship with TechComm) has been very beneficial up to this point,” Kisling said. “We started our partnership in January.”
Enid was the first community to sign onto TechComm. Since then, a few other regional communities have joined.
