ENID, OK (July 13, 2011)-- The City of Enid is now offering free Wi-Fi in
the downtown area and Meadowlake Softball field, as well as the North and
South Government Spring parks! Look for the Wi-Fi network ENIDCITYWIFI at
any of these locations, and no password is required to join. Wi-Fi
connection speed can vary depending on distance from the access points and
how many people are utilizing the Wi-Fi connection at any one time. Initial
tests show speeds from 700 Kbps up to 3 Mbps. The primary use of the Wi-Fi
network is for automatic meter reading, public safety, public works and the
code department. The Wi-Fi network was designed to work outdoors but has
limited use indoors due to building infrastructure. Also, the City filters
the network to help prevent inappropriate use of the internet.
You can find a Free Internet Security Warning and Disclaimer on the City of
Enid's Web Site at
www.enid.org/wifidisclaimer<http://www.enid.org/wifidisclaimer> explaining
the usage and limitations of the network. Phase 2 of this project will
supply free internet coverage at Meadowlake and Crosslin Parks.
Look for a coverage map in the next Enid on the Move in early August!
