ENID — One food manufacturing line from an AdvancePierre Foods plant in Iowa is being moved to Enid and Cincinnati.
As a result, the facility in Orange City, Iowa, will lose approximately 100 of 450 jobs, company officials announced Wednesday. The workforce reduction will take place at the end of July.
“This consolidation will allow the company to optimize its existing manufacturing facilities,” said Mike Zelkind, senior vice president for operations. “Regarding the additional production coming to Enid, we are currently assessing our staffing capacity at the Enid facility and will consider adjustments as needed in the future.”
Affected workers in Iowa will receive a severance package based on their tenure with the company as well as transition assistance and re-employment support services, Zelkind said.
Impacted Orange City employees also will be offered positions at other AdvancePierre facilities.
Earlier this year, AdvancePierre Foods announced it was adding 30 skilled manufacturing positions at its Willow production facility. The expansion will accommodate the production of a retail line of Philly-style steak products.
AdvancePierre is a leading supplier of value-added protein and handheld convenience products to the food service, school, retail, club, vending and convenience store channels. The company makes and distributes a full line of packaged sandwiches, fully cooked chicken and beef products, Philly-style steak, breaded beef, pork and poultry and bakery products.
Headquartered in Cincinnati, AdvancePierre employs more than 4,000 people and has manufacturing facilities in Enid, Ohio and Iowa, as well as sandwich assembly facilities in North Carolina, Ohio and South Carolina. The company also operates bakeries in North Carolina and Oklahoma.
Enid-based Advance Food Co., Advance Brands and Pierre Foods merged last year.
