Sales tax revenue up in Enid

Enid received about 5.3 percent more in sales taxes receipts for sales at the end of February and beginning of March than the city did during the same time period last year.

According to a report from Oklahoma Tax Commission, Enid brought $1,958,348.29 in sales taxes from end of February sales and estimated sales from the beginning of March compared to $1,852,135.02 the previous year.

“That’s good news for Enid,” said Enid Regional Development Alliance Executive Director Brent Kisling. “It shows that we’re continuing to grow. I think if you couple that with the 2.7 percent labor force growth last year and some of the employment growth we’ve seen lately, it’s not overly surprising our sales tax revenues are starting to (move) along as well.”

Kisling said sales tax revenue isn’t driven only by Enid residents.

“I think a big part of it would be increases in oil and gas activity in northwest Oklahoma,” he said.

Meanwhile, Garfield County had an overall rise of about 1.9 percent in sales tax revenue compared to the previous year.

Counties surrounding Enid had mixed results from the tax commission’s monthly sales tax report.

Alfalfa and Blaine counties both saw significant rises in sales tax revenue, while Noble County saw a decrease.

Overall, the state disbursed $108,402,776 in sales tax collections to Oklahoma cities. That was an increase of $4,310,002 from the same period last year.
