ENID HITS A HOME RUN !!!!

David Allen Memorial Ballpark has been selected to continue as the host site for the NJCAA Division II World Series for 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The eight-day, 10-team, double-elimination tournament is held at the end of May each year and brings together the ten district winners from across the United States. The downtown Enid ballpark has been the host site for the past two years and will host this year’s World Series from May 28 through June 4.

Enid was selected to continue as World Series host in a competitive bidding process conducted by the National Junior College Athletic Association. The vote was Tuesday morning during the NJCAA national convention in Tampa, Florida.

“This reflects a lot of work on behalf of many people that are involved with the World Series.  Our volunteer committee does an excellent job.  None of this is possible without the continued generosity of Paul and Joan Allen”, said Bill Mayberry, chairman of the Enid Baseball Committee. “This represents significant national publicity. Several Jr. Colleges from around the country have told me that they have “THE ROAD TO ENID”, as their slogans”.

Mayberry presented the NJCAA selection committee with a video of Enid and highlights from the NJCAA World Series the past two years.

The competition to be selected to host this huge event was tough, said Mayberry, who is NJCAA World Series tournament director in Enid.

“The championship event selection committee from the NJCAA complimented the Enid hospitality shown to these teams in the past. The commitment on behalf of the community, the city, the college and the ballpark itself were all significant factors in us being awarded this contract,” said Mayberry.

The World Series had been in Millington, Tenn., just north of Memphis, for 16 years prior to moving to Enid in 2009.

In addition to the prestige of being host of the national championship tournament, Enid will receive a significant economic boost from the event, which draws teams and fans from across the nation. World Series winners in 2009 and 2010 were from Illinois and Louisiana.
